A Note from Jessica

I've been directing, teaching, and adapting works for the stage since 1998. I'm extremely grateful for my individual and idiosyncratic career to date.

As a director in the theater, I create a space to witness the largest stories our culture has to offer. As the audience, we see the whole gorgeous, hideous, intoxicating range of human behavior —real and imagined — and we sit still for it. As a result, we start to see ourselves with both criticism and compassion. And then a kind miracle happens: we ask more of ourselves as human beings, and we forgive ourselves at the same time.

I seek out stories of revelation, of transformation. I create worlds onstage that are powerful with metaphor, yet also feel very close and familiar. I feel it's of foundational importance to expand on the natural rules of the live theater, to celebrate theatricality rather than seeking to hide it, and to push the improvisational quality of acting, its “liveness,” to its farthest and most unpredictable point.

You can read my entire CV hereI'm always looking for new and additional ways to connect! I'm available for corporate workshops, festival events, and collaborations with regional theaters nationally and internationally. Or even just a conversation!

I look forward to talking with you.
